Contract doctors protesting the lack of permanent posts five years ago while working during the movement control order imposed during the Covid-19 pandemic.PETALING JAYA: A doctors' group tonight described as courageous the move to offer permanent positions next year for more than 9,000 contract doctors in the public healthcare service.

In a statement, contract doctors' group Hartal Doktor Kontrak (HDK) said the announcement by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim when tabling the 2027 budget “marked a significant turning point for Malaysia’s medical workforce”.

HDK said thousands of doctors have endured years of uncertainty since 2016, while many others have left public service in search of better opportunities and a more secure future.
