(EPA Images pic)THE HAGUE: Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten on Friday said a six-month pause before US sanctions on the International Criminal Court take effect should be used to pursue negotiations with Washington.

"The announced sanctions by the United States against the ICC are deeply regrettable. At the same time, these sanctions will not take effect immediately. And this is crucial because it provides us vital space for dialogue in the upcoming months," Jetten told reporters.

The Netherlands holds a special responsibility as the host country for the ICC, which is based in The Hague.
