KUALA LUMPUR: BAM president Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz has welcomed the government's commitment to strengthening sports development under Budget 2027.
While no specific allocation for badminton was announced, he said the broader provisions for national sports development, school sports activities and high-performance competitions could create opportunities to strengthen the badminton talent pipeline.
BAM, whose annual expenditure is close to RM55 million, has been getting an allocation of RM5.5 million a year from the government for its programmes.
Budget 2027 allocates RM730 million for sports — RM460 million for national sports development and RM240 million to host the 2027 SEA Games and Asean Para Games, and RM30 million for the sports matching grant (GPS).
