PETALING JAYA: Police have arrested 13 people suspected of being part of a syndicate that allegedly used Malaysian passport details to open Alipay accounts to receive and transfer proceeds from online gambling scams targeting Chinese nationals.
Perak police chief Alwi Zainal Abidin said the suspects, comprising five Malaysians and eight Myanmar nationals aged between 20 and 44, were arrested in two raids in Teluk Intan, Perak, on Sept 28.
They were believed to have acted as the syndicate’s leaders and agents responsible for processing the accounts.
