OCTOBER 3 — The so-called Blue Wave in Malaysian politics has been stopped. Even if Barisan Nasional (BN) wins Melaka hands down, that would not necessarily revive it.
Indeed, a decisive BN victory could demonstrate precisely why the original concept of a single Blue Wave has ceased to describe Malaysian politics accurately.
The distinction is important.
The Blue Wave was originally associated with the extraordinary rise of Perikatan Nasional (PN), especially PAS, following GE15 and the subsequent state elections.
It conveyed the impression that Malay electoral sentiment was moving overwhelmingly and perhaps irreversibly towards PN.
