KUALA LUMPUR: A bill was tabled for first reading in the Dewan Rakyat today to enhance enforcement and investigation aspects in the country's sports development.
Youth and Sports Minister Dr Taufiq Johari, when tabling the Sports Development (Amendment) Bill 2026, said it would be tabled for second reading during the current sitting.
It seeks to amend the Sports Development Act 1997 (Act 576), among others, to provide for the management and disposal of asset, and liabilities of a sports body the registration of which has been revoked to protect the creditor's interest and stakeholder.
The proposed amendment also to empower the minister to make regulations in respect of compliance with international obligations in relation to anti-doping and any matter relating to safe sport.
