The three Myanmar children were denied bail by the Bukit Mertajam magistrates' court after being charged with threatening to hurt a 71-year-old woman, but the High Court intervened and reversed the decision.PETALING JAYA: Rights group Tenaganita has urged Suhakam's children's commissioners to intervene in the case of the three Myanmar children, aged between 11 and 12, who were initially denied bail after being charged with criminal intimidation.

Tenaganita executive director Glorene A Das called on the commission to ensure the children receive legal and psychosocial support and to strengthen child-sensitive procedures to prevent unnecessary detention or degrading treatment.

Das also urged the government, the police, the judiciary, and child protection authorities to urgently review the children's treatment and ensure compliance with the Child Act 2001, and the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.
