KUALA LUMPUR: The government is expected to table an Artificial Intelligence (AI) Governance Bill in the Dewan Rakyat early next year, Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo said.

He said the proposed legislation would adopt a risk-based approach, with the level of regulation and obligations determined by the potential harm posed by an AI system.

Gobind said the Bill would also provide a cross-sectoral framework to complement existing sector-specific legislation.

"Under this Bill, the government is adopting a risk-based approach. The level of control and obligations will be assessed based on the potential harm posed by an AI system, rather than risk classifications based solely on industry.

"The use of AI requires stricter regulation as it has a direct impact on safety, fundamental rights and individual well-being," he said.
