HONG KONG: Veteran entertainer Maria Cordero has revealed that she is actively preparing for her old age, determined not to become a burden on her six children.

Speaking to local media, the 72-year-old Macao-born singer shared that she has already started looking at care homes after a moving visit to a friend with dementia prompted her to think seriously about her future.

"After visiting a friend who has dementia recently, I felt I needed to make plans," she explained.

Despite initial pushback from her son over her decision to move into a care facility, Cordero stood her ground, insisting: "You have to make preparations for yourself… Actually, I'm already looking into care homes."

Besides looking into care facilities, the veteran performer has also planned a comfortable retirement strategy alongside her close friend and fellow Hong Kong star, Li Lai Ha.
