WHEN Cambodian authorities cracked down on the major scam operations in their country, it was perhaps inevitable that the highly lucrative business of preying on vulnerable individuals across the globe would disperse and find new havens for their illegal activities.

And so it has now come to pass. Police have uncovered operations trying hard to keep a low profile in Malaysia.

Myanmar, where the government is perhaps heavily distracted by the civil war, is also said to be a new base for the bigger "scamsters" fleeing Cambodia. Now, a raid on a suspected scam centre in Rawalpindi, Pakistan has led to the detention of 130 Malaysians.

The modus operandi appears no different from that in Cambodia before this. The detained Malaysians were obviously targeting their unsuspecting countrymen.
