No new extradition request from India for Zakir Naik, says Home Minister
PETALING JAYA: The government has maintained its decision not to extradite preacher Dr Zakir Naik to India, stressing that Malaysia has made no commitment to hand him over to the Indian authorities.
Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the decision was made in accordance with Malaysia’s rights under Article 6 of the 2010 Extradition Treaty between Malaysia and India, as well as the provisions of the Extradition Act 1992.
He said Malaysia had not received any fresh extradition request from India concerning Zakir to date.
