MACC has frozen 20 personal bank accounts and nine company accounts containing a total of about RM1.5 million.PUTRAJAYA: A businessman is among three people arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for allegedly offering about RM1 million in bribes to police personnel.
An MACC source said the businessman, who owns a company, and two women — a tuition teacher and a marketing executive — were arrested at several locations in Putrajaya, Selangor and Johor last Sunday.
The suspects, aged in their 30s and 50s, are believed to have offered bribes to several police officers and rank-and-file personnel in exchange for protection and to avoid enforcement action against illegal cigarette smuggling activities in the east coast states and the Klang Valley.
