PETALING JAYA: Google will invest US$15 billion (RM61 billion) in Malaysia over the next two years, covering data centre development, artificial intelligence (AI) skills training, water security and clean energy.

The investment, announced under its Mantap Malaysia Bersama AI initiative today, includes new data centre campuses in Selangor and Negeri Sembilan in 2027 and 2028.

Google said the construction phase is expected to support 37,000 jobs annually, including 6,000 construction jobs, contribute US$1.1 billion a year to gross domestic product and generate US$378 million in average annual labour income.

Once operational, the facilities are expected to sustain 9,000 jobs, with wages projected to be 45% above the national median. The company has engaged 80 Malaysian entities to develop and operate the infrastructure.
