(JohnShen Lee pic)GEORGE TOWN: Any pension reform for elected representatives and members of the Penang administration requires a thorough examination of the relevant laws, says chief minister Chow Kon Yeow.
Chow acknowledged Ong Ah Teong’s (PH-Batu Lancang) proposal for the state government to adopt the “one person, one adjusted pension” principle to prevent overlapping retirement benefits for state assemblymen.
He said remuneration and retirement policies should be reasonable, fair and financially sustainable.
However, Chow said any amendments or review of the Members of the Administration and Members of the State Legislative Assembly (Remuneration) Enactment 1980 could only be done in consultation with the state legal adviser.
