PETALING JAYA: About 80% of accident-prone locations upgraded under the government’s road safety programme have recorded no recurring accidents following targeted infrastructure improvements nationwide.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke said more than RM120 million had been allocated since 2023 to upgrade 336 identified blackspots under the Road Safety Infrastructure Upgrading Programme.

He said the government was implementing road safety strategies based on the Safe System Approach through the Malaysia Road Safety Plan 2022–2030 (PKJRM 2022–2030), which targets a 50% reduction in road fatalities by 2030 compared with the 2019 baseline.

“This demonstrates that targeted engineering interventions can help reduce risks at these locations,” he said in a written parliamentary reply to Bukit Bendera MP Syerleena Abdul Rashid, who had asked about the government’s strategies to reduce road fatalities.
