(EPA Images pic)BRUSSELS: The EU said Friday "a lot of work" was still needed to reach peace in Ukraine and the bloc would decide on its own security matters, after US President Donald Trump touted a deal with Russia involving "all of Europe".

Trump on Thursday predicted a "very big" deal with Russia involving not only the Ukraine war but "all of Europe", in remarks likely to fuel fresh fears on the continent of a pivot towards the Kremlin.

His comments came as Washington floated a broader rewriting of Europe's security architecture as part of an agreement.

"We all wish that we would have a peace deal soon. We are all working in that regard," said EU spokeswoman Paula Pinho.
