KUALA LUMPUR: For first-time filmmaker Jaydev Jayakumar, “Irumbuth Thottam - Ladang Besi” began close to home - literally.

Set and filmed entirely in Sri Tebong, Melaka, the 114-minute Tamil-language crime drama involved over 50 members of the local community as supporting actors and extras.

Now, after its Malaysian release on Aug 6, the film is heading overseas, with screenings planned in Australian cinemas this month through the Melbourne Malaysian Indian Cultural Club - the movie's first international outing.

According to a post on the Finas Malaysia Facebook page, "Irumbuth Thottam" will also make history by being the first Malaysian Tamil feature film to receive a public cinema release in Australia.
