KUALA LUMPUR: Some 73,498 six-year-olds have registered for Year One for the 2027 academic calendar as of Sept 30, the Dewan Rakyat was told.
Deputy Education Minister Wong Kah Woh said 491,649 children had registered for Year One, comprising 73,498 six-year-olds and 418,151 seven-year-olds.
He said the Education Ministry had taken into account infrastructure, manpower and other preparations to ensure schools were ready for the implementation.
"The ministry is currently constructing 1,478 additional classrooms through 677 Industrialised Building System modular projects involving 605 schools.
"This is in addition to the 1,514 classrooms that have already been provided through the conversion of existing rooms," he said in response to a question from Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun (BN-Port Dickson).
