Communications minister Fahmi Fadzil dismissed the notion that enforcement by MCMC is selective, saying it acts according to the law and disregards the political leanings of the individuals involved.

PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has helped to take down 713 social media content involving deepfakes of political leaders since 2025, communications minister Fahmi Fadzil said.

Fahmi said service providers removed the content from their platforms between Jan 1, 2025 and Sept 15 this year after MCMC submitted takedown requests.

"The content was removed based on complaints submitted as well as breaches of community guidelines and local laws," he said in a written parliamentary reply.
