MIRI, Oct 8 — People are often remembered less for what they said or did than for how they made others feel.

When the CodeBlue team visited the late Jessie Paya Jok’s home in Miri, Sarawak, on October 2, the nurse’s four-year-old dog, Angel, was in a corner of the compound. Before we left, Jessie’s husband, Larry Bilong Kule, 43, took us over to see the dog whom Jessie had cared for every day.

Angel had been different since Jessie died, Larry said. She barely moved, spending much of her time lying on the floor with what looked like tears in her eyes.

“It was like she knew,” Larry said.

When Jessie’s coffin was brought home, Angel stood still beside it.
