KUCHING (Oct 1): Sarawak’s historical narrative should draw more heavily on local records, oral traditions and community perspectives to provide a fuller account of the state’s past, said Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.
He said existing historical accounts should be critically examined and supplemented with local sources to address gaps and correct inaccuracies, rather than relying predominantly on Western or European perspectives.
“However, rewriting Sarawak’s history does not mean changing facts as we please.
“It means addressing shortcomings, correcting errors, broadening perspectives, critically examining external sources, and giving prominence to local sources and the voices of Sarawakians themselves in the state’s historical narrative,” he said, according to a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) report.
