KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 2 — Significant interventions by the Sabah state government in addressing medical officers’ refusal to serve in Sabah are conditional upon decentralisation and remit of the state’s constitutional 40 per cent revenue entitlement.

Medical associations and doctors have urged the Sabah and Sarawak state governments to “play their part” in attracting doctors to serve in Borneo, such as by improving staff accommodation and providing state-funded salary increments, allowances, or retention bonuses.

CodeBlue asked Sabah Deputy Minister II Masidi Manjun today, who is also the state finance minister, whether the state government would be willing to spend its own budget on these measures.
