KUALA LUMPUR: Powerlifter Bonnie Bunyau Gustin successfully defended his gold medal in the men's under-72 kilogramme category at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games today.
Bonnie successfully cleared 216kg and 225kg on his first two attempts, the latter enough to crown him the champion at the Nagoya City Trade and Industry Centre.
The 27-year-old attempted 231kg on his final attempt, which would have broken his 230kg games record from Hangzhou 2023, but was unsuccessful.
China's Zhang Pingkang finished a distant second on 212kg while Iran's Mohsen Bakhtiar (208kg) was third.
