PUTRAJAYA: A 39-year-old Perak-born man with five Malaysian children has failed in his bid to be recognised as a Malaysian citizen after the Court of Appeal ruled that he had not met the constitutional requirements for citizenship.
A three-member panel chaired by Datuk Azhahari Kamal Ramli dismissed Velmurugan's appeal, with Datuk Faizah Jamaludin and Datuk Hayatul Akmal Abdul Aziz also sitting.
The court found that although Velmurugan had lived in Malaysia all his life, he had failed to prove that his biological mother was a Malaysian citizen or that he was not born a citizen of any country.
Velmurugan was born on Feb 24, 1987, at Ladang Escot in Ulu Bernam, Tanjung Malim, Perak.
