KUCHING: The 13th Sarawak election will be less about determining who will form the state government and more about how far the opposition can erode the dominance of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), which enters the election with an overwhelming political advantage.

At the previous state election in 2021, GPS won 76 of the 82 state assembly seats, while Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) won four seats and DAP secured two.

However, the state assembly's composition changed after the election when See Chee How left PSB to become an independent assemblyman, before three other former PSB assemblymen — Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh, Dr Johnical Rayong Ngipa and Baru Bian — joined Parti Demokratik Progresif (PDP), a GPS component party.
