KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia's producer price index (PPI) local production accelerated to 12 per cent in September, from 10.7 per cent in August, driven by higher prices in the mining and manufacturing sectors amid a surge in global crude oil prices.

The Statistics Department said the mining sector recorded the sharpest annual increase among the main sectors, rising 54.1 per cent in September from 41.2 per cent in the previous month.

This was largely driven by the extraction of crude petroleum, which surged 74.2 per cent.

The manufacturing sector's producer prices rose 9.4 per cent, compared with 8.8 per cent in August, supported by a 35 per cent increase in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products and a 12.9 per cent rise in computer, electronic and optical products.
