KUALA LUMPUR: States without sufficient water supply will not be allowed to host data centres, said Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani.

"If a state does not have enough water, it must not be a host for data centres," he said when winding up the debate on the 2027 Supply bill today.

Johari (BN-Titiwangsa) said the government said the government would consult state governments before approving data centre projects.

"If a state does not have sufficient water supply, even if it has space (for data centres), we cannot give it (approval).
