KUALA LUMPUR: The government has yet to decide on 24 new data centre applications as it prioritises delivering 117 projects already approved, said Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani.
He said the ministry would assess whether sufficient electricity remained available once the 117 projects were completed, and consider renewable energy, storage and new technologies if more capacity was needed.
"Not everyone can come to Malaysia. We have to be very selective," he said when winding-up the 2027 Supply Bill in the Dewan Rakyat.
Johari was responding to Hassan Abdul Karim (PH-Pasir Gudang), who asked whether there was a conflict of interest involving a water supply company in Johor that also had substantial interests in data centre investments in the state.
