KUALA LUMPUR: Independent mixed doubles pair Hoo Pang Ron-Lai Pei Jing are not getting carried away despite exceeding expectations during the European swing, with their latest achievement being a place in the Hylo Open quarter-finals in Saarbrucken, Germany, on Thursday.
World No. 24 Pang Ron-Pei Jing produced a convincing 21-9, 21-16 upset over Taiwan's world No. 10 Yang Po Hsuan-Hu Ling Fang in a quick 25-minute last-16 match.
Pang Ron, who left the national squad in June, effectively swapped partnerships, teaming up with veteran Pei Jing while her independent partner Jimmy Wong joined the national squad.
Jimmy was subsequently paired with Pang Ron's former partner, Cheng Su Yin.
