GEORGE TOWN: Repairs to the sinkhole along Lebuhraya Mayang Pasir are expected to be completed by Nov 7, with the affected road remaining closed until the work is finished.

Penang Infrastructure Committee chairman Zairil Khir Johari said the cause had been identified as damage to a 750mm concrete pipe.

"Site safety has been enhanced, and the sinkhole has been temporarily covered with a steel plate," he said in an update on the repair works.

According to Zairil, Indah Water Konsortium (IWK) is carrying out repairs in stages, including diverting water flow and pumping water out of the sinkhole.
