GEORGE TOWN: Police have arrested 141 people and seized computer equipment worth RM1.4 million after busting online scam syndicates operating across Penang in a series of 14 raids.

The multi-district operation, conducted between Oct 9 and 29, targeted scam call centres operating from luxury condominiums and private residences across three districts.

Five raids were carried out in the northeast district, six in the southwest and three in Seberang Perai Tengah.

Penang police chief Datuk Dennis Lim said the syndicates had used the state as an operational base to target victims overseas.
