KUALA LUMPUR: "Mayday, mayday" and "We're going to crash into the ground" were among the last words heard from the cockpit of a private jet before it plunged into a residential area in Palm Beach County, Florida.

The crash happened on Sunday. All nine people on board the Learjet 60 were killed.

The jet had departed Austin-Bergstrom International Airport in Texas for North Eleuthera Airport in the Bahamas, the United States Federal Aviation Administration said, according to Reuters.

An air traffic control recording from a Miami control centre, posted on LiveATC and shared by X user @aviationbrk, captured the plane's final moments.
