KUALA LUMPUR: The Parliamentary Special Select Committee on Health wants the Health Ministry to review existing allowances and incentives to encourage medical officers to serve in Sabah and Sarawak.
Special Select Committee on Health member Young Syefura Othman said the refusal of medical officers to take up postings in the two states was a serious concern, with some hospitals operating with as few as three medical officers.
"I would also like to touch on the concerns in Sabah and Sarawak, where medical officers who are supposed to report for duty at several clinics and hospitals have failed to do so.
"In other words, they are not interested in serving in Sabah or Sarawak.
"Allowances and incentives remain one of the factors contributing to this situation.
