BATU PAHAT: The grandfather of 16-year-old Irene Sofiya Mohd Kharool Faisal expressed deep grief today over the death of his granddaughter, who was found dead in a school hall in Yong Peng.
Khyar Abas, 69, struggled to hide his heartbreak over the tragic loss of his granddaughter, affectionately known as Fiya.
"Why did they do this to my granddaughter? What did she do wrong? Even if I cry, Fiya will not return. I only regret that Fiya had to be the victim.
"I leave it to the authorities to conduct a full investigation. Give a fitting punishment to those responsible. We want action taken not just for the family or me, but as a lesson so it does not happen to anyone else," he said after receiving a visit from Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi at his home in Kampung Parit Selamat, Yong Peng, today.
