KUALA LUMPUR: The upgrading of Papar Hospital has been delayed by 2,108 days following 11 extensions of time, the Dewan Rakyat was told today.

Special Select Committee on Health chairman Suhaizan Kaiat said the contract with the original contractor had since been terminated, with a replacement contractor to be appointed through a new tender process.

He said the prolonged delay was among the issues identified during the committee's working visit to healthcare facilities in Sabah from Aug 17 to 21, covering Kota Kinabalu, Putatan and Papar.

"Particular attention during the working visit was given to the Papar Hospital upgrading project, which has experienced prolonged delays.

"The project has been granted 11 extensions of time, totalling 2,108 days," he said.
