Cargo services are expected to contribute 70% of ECRL’s long-term revenue, with passenger services accounting for the remaining 30%, says Transport Minister Anthony Loke.
PETALING JAYA: The East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) is projected to generate RM418 million in passenger and cargo revenue by 2029, up from RM260 million in 2027, with freight earnings expected to overtake passenger revenue.
Transport Minister Anthony Loke said the projections were based on a consultancy study conducted in 2025, which forecast steady growth in passenger revenue and a significant increase in cargo earnings towards the end of the period.
“Based on a study conducted by consultants in 2025, revenue from ECRL passenger services is projected at RM192 million in 2027, RM198 million in 2028 and RM204 million in 2029.
