Flood victims placed at the relief centre at Dewan Siantan Kampung Melayu Subang, Sungai Buloh. (Bernama pic)PETALING JAYA: A mother had to fight against strong currents to save her two children from a flash flood at Kampung Melayu Subang yesterday, fearing they would otherwise be swept into a river.
Fatimah Muhammad, 43, said the floodwaters rose rapidly to chest level at her home in Jalan Merbau, while the strong currents made it difficult for them to reach safety.
Fatimah, who has lived in the village for 19 years, said heavy rain began at about 3pm before conditions worsened, forcing her to flee with her children, Nur Izzati Maisarah Rose Safizul, 15, and Shafiq Syakir, 13.
“The water rose very quickly. What was most frightening was how strong the current was. If we had not fought against it, we could have been swept into the river,” she told FMT at the relief centre at Dewan Siantan Kampung Melayu Subang.
