(EPA Images pic)KUALA LUMPUR: Radzi Jidin (PN-Putrajaya) has questioned why the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) appears to still be registering refugees despite a Cabinet directive to suspend registrations.
He said although the government ordered the suspension in July while developing its own refugee registration system, a reply from the National Security Council indicated that UNHCR was still processing a backlog of applications.
“Who is in charge of this country? The Cabinet has decided that UNHCR must stop registering new refugees,” he said during the committee-stage debate on the foreign ministry's allocation in the Dewan Rakyat.
