(Facebook pic)KUALA LUMPUR: An MP today asked why millions of ringgit set aside for National Library development went unspent, while another called for a law to protect old town names such as Tanjung Penaga and Klian Pauh.
Wong Shu Qi (PH-Kluang) said the National Library was allocated RM19.2 million for development in 2025. She said the amount was later reduced to RM12.4 million, but government figures showed that none of it was spent.
She asked the national unity ministry to explain why the money approved by Parliament had gone unused.
Wong also asked whether public libraries were meeting people's needs, saying many open only from 9am to 5pm on weekdays, when students are in school.
