Former research assistant Yusoff Rawther is reportedly seeking asylum in the UK.PUTRAJAYA: The Court of Appeal has, for a third time, granted the prosecution an extension to locate former research assistant Yusoff Rawther and personally serve him with a notice of appeal against his acquittal of drug trafficking and possession of imitation firearms charges.
Justice Azman Abdullah fixed Feb 2 for the prosecution to update the court on its efforts to serve the notice.
Deputy public prosecutor How May Ling earlier said the Attorney-General's Chambers was using the mutual legal assistance process, a formal government-to-government mechanism, to locate Yusoff.
His lawyer, Rafique Rashid Ali, insisted Yusoff had not absconded but was in the UK seeking political asylum. He said he remained in contact with his client through Zoom but did not know his exact whereabouts.
