KUALA SELANGOR: Masjid At-Taufiqiah in Bandar Seri Coalfields has been hit by floods almost every year, earning it the nickname "Masjid Banjir" (Flood Mosque), says a mosque committee member.
Hasan Md Rasol, 62, said the latest incident began when his wife, Suriatie Mohd Senin, 50, alerted him at 7am today that water behind their house was rising rapidly.
He said he had just returned from performing Subuh prayers when he turned back to the mosque to alert the imam and other committee members.
"We immediately worked together to salvage the carpets in the prayer hall, portable loudspeakers, prayer mats, the Quran and other items. We also switched off the main power supply to prevent any untoward incidents.
