GEORGE TOWN: A 57-year-old man was slashed after falling into an extortion trap orchestrated by a woman he met on WhatsApp.

Northeast district police chief Assistant Commissioner Abdul Rozak Muhammad said the incident occurred at 1.15am yesterday after the victim picked up the 39-year-old woman at the Taman Manggis People's Housing Project (PPR) flats in his car.

"The suspects then pursued the victim's car, causing him to lose control of the vehicle and crash into a wall at the Jalan Pangkor junction," he said in a statement.

Rozak said investigations revealed that the incident was part of an extortion plot involving the woman, her husband and a relative.
