(Bernama pic)GEORGE TOWN: The Penang government has denied misusing RM100,000 in zakat funds to finance an official visit to Egypt last year, led by former governor Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak.
Deputy chief minister Mohamad Abdul Hamid said the trip was funded by the state government and the Penang Islamic religious council (MAINPP) using its consolidated administration funds under the 2025 budget.
“We deny such allegations,” he said when winding up the debate on the 2027 state budget for his Islamic development portfolio at the state assembly today.
