The Learning Enhancement and Acceleration in Primary Education Programme will help Bangladesh improve its pre-primary and primary education systems, which serve more than 20 million children.

“While Bangladesh achieved near-universal access to primary schooling, the quality of education remains a significant challenge. About 50% of 10-year-olds are unable to read and understand a simple, age-appropriate text, as compared to upper-middle-income countries, such as Malaysia at 42% and Brazil at 47%," the World Bank said in a statement on Friday.
