KUCHING, Oct 1: A grand parade and mass assembly, followed by a star-studded People’s Concert featuring Datuk Awie and Aina Abdul, will take centre stage as Sarawak marks the 80th birthday of Governor Tun Pehin Sri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar in a four-day celebration from Oct 8 to 11.
The celebrations will bring together a series of religious, official and public events, with the main festivities centred in Padang Merdeka on Oct 10.
Minister for Utility and Telecommunication, who is the minister in charge of the celebrations, Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi, said preparations were in the final stages following the last meeting of the organising committee.
The programme kicks off on Oct 8 with a Thanksgiving Ceremony at Masjid Jamek Kuching during the Maghrib and Isyak prayers, expected to draw about 5,000 worshippers.
