KOTA KINABALU: Safety and monitoring measures have been tightened following a crocodile sighting in the waters of Taman Tunku Abdul Rahman (TTAR) on Oct 5.

Sabah Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Jafry Ariffin said Sabah Parks had stepped up patrols in the area with the Sabah Wildlife Department.

He said all tourism operators conducting water activities, including scuba diving, snorkelling and sea walking, had been instructed to inspect activity areas before allowing visitors into the water.

"Swimming and snorkelling alone are also not permitted and must be carried out in groups," he said in a statement.

Warning signs have been installed in the affected area, while lifeguards continue to remind visitors to observe safety precautions.
