NEW YORK: A man was shot Thursday during an interaction with federal agents in New York, city police said, with US media reporting that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) was involved.

"At around 4pm today, there was a shooting involving federal law enforcement agents in the Marble Hill neighbourhood of the Bronx," the NYPD said.

"The NYPD was not involved in the incident and was not on scene at the time of the shooting," it added.

News outlets said that ICE, responsible for executing president Donald Trump's immigration crackdown, was carrying out an operation at the time of the shooting.
