James Chin of the University of Tasmania said Bersatu’s defeat in Negeri Sembilan has made them ‘desperate’ for a pact with Pakatan Harapan.

PETALING JAYA: An electoral understanding between Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Bersatu in the Melaka polls will not stand a chance if Umno and PAS agree on an alliance, an analyst said.

James Chin of the University of Tasmania said both PH and Bersatu appeared desperate for a pact with each other, even an informal one, especially after the Barisan Nasional-Perikatan Nasional alliance’s convincing win in the Negeri Sembilan polls.

“Both are pushed into a corner, and they think the best way to approach Umno-PAS is for a pact to be formed between them. But if Umno and PAS can reach a deal, then the PH-Bersatu pact will fail, except in DAP areas,” he told FMT.
