Davis, a local fisherman from Julau, Sarawak, has landed a 20kg empurau, one of Malaysia’s most sought-after freshwater fish, and sold it for more than RM10,000.

Davis, who caught the fish with a friend in Kanowit River, said it was the heaviest he had ever caught. His previous best was 16kg; typical catches weigh around 10kg.

Buyers in Bintangor purchased the fish, which was subsequently cooked and served at a local cafe.
