KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Medical Association (MMA) has called for concrete, collective action by Asean member states, including Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore and Brunei, to tackle transboundary haze that continues to threaten millions of people across the region.

Its president, Dr L. Sivanesan, said countries must enforce the Asean Agreement on Transboundary Haze Pollution by setting clear implementation deadlines, ensuring compliance and publicly reporting progress.

"Regional agreements must deliver results rather than remain promises on paper," he said in a statement today.

Sivanesan said authorities should also investigate and prosecute those responsible for illegal burning, including companies linked to Malaysia.
